2000 Trans Am Convertible

With new LS6 Engine, M6, and 4.10 gears

I have a plan for the mods that's broken up into 3 stages.  The first stage was to do all the bolt-ons, like headers  and cold air induction.  The first stage mods enabled me to get the most out of a bigger cam and heads down the road, plus add significant HP now  (not to mention the wicked sound of the Loudmouth exhaust).  Stage 2 was devoted to building up the drive train to handle more power.  Stage three was going to be a head and cam swap, but I've decided to swap the LS1 (with 104,000 miles on it) for a brand spanking new LS6 crate motor (2004 spec model).  I'm going to donate my used LS1 to Rob Morris for his ASA track car so I can pick up some LSx tips...

  • Predator Performance Tune
  • Kept 6,000 rpm Rev Limiter
  • Set Fans for 160° thermostat

  •          Fan 1 - On: 185°   Off: 175°
              Fan 2 - On: 195°   Off: 184°

    335.5 RWHP @ 5500 rpm
    345 FtLbs Tq @ 4750rpm
(Flywheel or Engine HP is about 395*)

[*RWHP /.85 to account for Drive Train Friction Loss]

Mustang Dyno's are so stingy, but real!
How can you tell how much your mods are working if you don't throw it on the dyno?

         Hooking Up & Extras: Done

  • SLP (GM) 4.10 Gears
          Reprogrammed computer for 4.10 Ratio
Biggest Bang for the Buck Award!
  • Mcleod Clutch
         + New Master & Slave
         Unbelievably strong: 4500rpm Launches!

  • Lou's Short Stick
  • Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter
  • LPW Rear end cover
  • SLP Smooth Bellows
  •

       Finally: The Go-Fast Stuff

  • Swapping in LS6                        +100hp

  •             6600 rev limit
  • ASP Underdrive Pulley               +10hp
  • TNT F1 N2O Wet Shot                +125hp
  • We'll have to throw it on the dyno again to see how the LS6 responds to the headers, induction, SLP Air Box Lid, and 85mm MAF sensor..  Then we'll do a proper dyno tune to max it out...I calculated about 380 RWHP from the upgrade, so we'll have to find the other 20 HP in fuel mapping and spark advance.

Think the 10-bolt will hold with 4.10's?  I thought "no", but you wouldn't believe how many 4200 rpm launches it's survived so far.  The LPW rear cover probably deserves a lot of the credit (really simple strength add-on!), and you gotta love that McCloud clutch  The combination of Predator tune, tuned long tube headers, and Loudmouth exhaust need to be heard to be believed...
